‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor’ Event Highlights University-Community Partnerships

Duquesne’s Center for Catholic Faith and Culture (CCFC) is providing members of the campus community the opportunity to learn first-hand about university-community partnerships at its upcoming event, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Building Authentic Relationships in the Community.

As part of the event, a group of nearly 30 Duquesne University students, faculty and staff will visit nonprofit Renewal, Inc's., downtown office from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18. The CCFC is collaborating with Renewal, Inc., which works to help individuals in the criminal justice system transition back to families and communities via a range of prevention, early intervention, programming and treatment approaches.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with Renewal, Inc., staff to learn about the services they provide, including inpatient and outpatient treatment; workforce development; and family reunification services. They will also hear from clients who have benefited from these services.

“The annual Won’t You Be My Neighbor event is a wonderful opportunity to nurture existing relationships between Duquesne and our community partners, and to connect more of our faculty, staff and students with our partners,” said Dr. Darlene Weaver, director of the CCFC. “The event also underscores Duquesne’s deeply Catholic and Spiritan approach to community engagement through our commitments to building authentic relationships and to walking with those on the margins.”

The Center for Community-Engaged Teaching and Research at Duquesne University is co-sponsoring the event.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor is not open to the public, but the media are invited to attend.
