Brighton Heights Resident a Double Winner at the Sonic Foundry Enterprise Video Awards

Duquesne University Associate Classroom Technologist Brendan Kepple was a two-time award winner at this year’s Sonic Foundry Enterprise Video Awards (EVA) in Madison, Wis.

Sonic Foundry is responsible for the Mediasite lecture capturing systems, which act as automated and scalable methods for creating, publishing, searching and managing lecture recordings across campus.

Kepple received the catchall “Overall Awesomeness Award” for his video documenting the role of Mediasite in the world crisis simulation event Simulex, hosted by Rev. John Sawicki, C.S.Sp., assistant professor of political science. Students utilize Mediasite to record mock press conferences and prepared statements drafted in response to simulated crises.

“It was a thrill to have Duquesne’s video selected as the winner of two EVAs. Being able to exhibit the unique role Mediasite plays in the political science department’s world-crisis simulation, Simulex, demonstrates the type of creative and innovative thinking that is encouraged at Duquesne University,” said Kepple.

Due to the unique nature of Mediasite’s use in the Simulex event, Kepple was also the recipient of the “Video in Education Scholarship” award and a $2,000 prize to be presented to worthy students.

“Winning the scholarship award was a humbling experience,” added Kepple. “By presenting two deserving students with financial assistance, I believe we are truly living out Duquesne’s mission of serving God by serving students.”

A resident of Brighton Heights, Kepple joined Duquesne University’s Office of Classroom Technologies in October of 2014. He graduated with a B.A. in film studies from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Prior to his appointment at Duquesne, Kepple was a freelance video producer and sound engineer/designer for Bricolage Production Company.

The Enterprise Video Awards program started in 2005 to recognize excellence in the practical and creative integration of Mediasite in business, education, health and government.
